Flexodamp FD: Flexible in-line pulsation dampener

pulsation_dampeners_2.png

This model of the Flexodamp pulsation dampeners is characterised by its ‘In-Line’ assembly, i.e. it is part of the discharge stroke at the pump outlet. In this case, the FD version is characterised by being a flexible mount since both the inner pipe through which the pumped product circulates and the outer pipe that acts as an air chamber are flexible rubber pipes. This design has been developed by our brand of pulsation dampeners that provides great advantages for certain applications.

Not only does it perform pulsation damping functions, but it also provides effective vibration isolation between the pump and rigid pipe of the system.

The working principle is very simple. When the damper is not working, the compressed air that has entered the inner and outer tube compresses the inner tube. (Figure 1)

When the pump pulses fluid, part of the fluid expands the inner tube, occupying the area that the compressed air occupied. (Figure 2)

The previous process is repeated automatically at the end of the pulse, the flow being linearised as a result of this method being used. Being totally flexible, it absorbs all the vibrations and hammering that may occur.

Flexodamp FDR: in-line pulsation dampener

pulsation_dampeners_1.png

FLEXODAMP pulsation dampers are characterized by their "linear" assembly, i.e. they are part of the discharge stroke at the pump outlet. In this case, the FDR version is characterized by a rigid metal body mount. Its internal air pressure chamber must be adjusted according to the pump discharge pressure.

The pulsation damper performs a dual function in installations with a pulsating flow.

It dampens the pulsations, making the flow continuous. This allows the use of measuring instruments such as a liquid flow meter or pressure sensors.

It eliminates vibrations and shocks, as well as reduces noise, increases the service life of installations and is especially effective for large volumes of pumping equipment.

The principle of operation is very simple. When the damper is not working, the compressed air pumped between the outer pipe (hose) and the inner hose compresses the inner hose. When the pump delivers liquid, it passes through the damper, expands the inner diameter of the hose, occupying the area, compressing the pre-injected air. The process is automatically repeated at the end of the pulse, and as a result, the flow is smoothed out. Being completely flexible, the damper absorbs all possible vibrations and shocks.

A balloon-type pulsation damper can be considered the most traditional and widespread damper, as it provides high performance and is produced in a very wide range of sizes and building materials. Competitively priced, it is also easy to install. It is specially designed for clean liquids without suspended solids and with low viscosity.

It is manually adjustable and is usually installed together with check valves to ensure the correct pressure in the air chamber relative to the operating pressure of the pump; this assembly is very common in diaphragm or piston metering pumps.

Advantages

  1. High level of efficiency.
  2. It can be made from various materials.
  3. Competitive prices.
  4. A wide range of models and sizes.
  5. Excessive adjustment of the operating pressure limits efficiency, but does not create other problems.

pulsation_dampeners_4.png

The pulsation diaphragm damper belongs to a number of dampers of traditional design, which provide slightly lower performance than pulsation dampers of the balloon type, but are manufactured in an extremely wide range of sizes and building materials. They are more suitable than the cylinder type when liquids contain suspended solids or have a certain viscosity.

This Flexodamp pulsation damper is manually adjustable and is usually installed together with check valves to ensure the correct pressure in the air chamber relative to the operating pressure of the pump.

Advantages

  1. The assembly is similar to that of a conventional cylinder.
  2. It can be made from various materials.
  3. Improved ability to use with liquids with suspended solids or viscous liquids relative to balloon dampers.

pulsation_dampeners_5.png

This FLEXODAMP pulsation damper model belongs to a range of traditional dampers. However, this version of the FAO provides and solves one of the main problems that exist in many pulsation dampers: the correct operation of the pulsation damper regardless of the operating pressure of the pump.

Due to this design, manual pressure control in the air chamber is not required, since it is constantly connected to the compressed air line and ensures its proper operation in conditions where pressure varies or is difficult to adjust, for example, due to the lack of pressure gauges in the system, which is indispensable in filtration applications where the operating pressure of the pump changes regularly.

  1. The assembly is similar to that of a conventional cylinder.
  2. Automatic control of the operating pressure.
  3. It is insensitive to process pressure changes.
  4. It does not require the use of other accessories such as check valves.
  5. It can be made from various materials.
  6. Improved ability to use with liquids with suspended solids or viscous liquids relative to balloon dampers.
  7. High level of efficiency.
